I don't have an opinion about the date, but the default version in the 
ports tree (according to my lookup via 
https://cgit.freebsd.org/ports/tree/Mk/bsd.default-versions.mk right 
now) is still sambe 4.13.

In my opinion we should not have an expired version set as the default 
version (I would not object to conditionalize the default version on the 
OSVERSION for old FreeBSD releases).
